Each summer we have families come and stay with their children as well as
partners who choose not to study. Couples like our arrangement of classes as
one partner can do French, the other cooking and the children can also be
catered for, with or without classes. For each family with children, consult
us for advice on how many hours of classes would be suitable for your child,
given the child's age and your particular circumstances.
There are many appropriate facilities at the chateau (pool,
bikes, table-tennis table, english language children's videos, toys and
plenty of space to run!) There is also a horse-riding centre nearby and a
heated indoor pool in the city centre. We can organise baby-sitters if
desired (a bi-lingual baby-sitter is available during the summer holidays).
Let us know well in advance if you need a babysitter organised.
One example is an American family who are living in France
for two years. They stayed with us for 2 weeks in a large room. Their 2
children, a boy and a girl aged 7 and 9, took a half-hour class in the
morning and a half-hour class in the evening. One parent took the General
French course (19 hours) while the other parent took the Intensive Course
(25 hours). The parents swapped roles for the second week. We organisd a
baby-sitter to take care of the children while both parents were in class in
the morning from 9.15am to 12.15pm and also on Monday and Thursday
afternoons from 5pm to 7pm. The French classes were specifically organised
for the children according to their particular needs.
-
Children 4 years old or younger are accommodated free of
charge with a bed in their parents' room.
-
For children from 5 to 12 years of age (inclusive) the price
of hotel accommodation is half the adult hotel rate if the room is shared
with a parent.
-
Teenagers unders 18 years of age are advised to take private
classes at the rate of 60 euros per hour with a minimum of 2 hours of the
teacher's time booked at any one time for 12 to 17 year olds. They tend to
lost interest if the classes are any longer.
-
Children under 12 years of age are taught in 30-minute
modules. Generally this means 30 minutes in the morning and 30 minutes in
the afternoon according to teacher and accompanying adults' availability.
Cost: 60 euros per hour.
A few rules to help small children fit into an adult setting
and make life easier for everyone
-
The kitchen staff is busy at meal times and needs your
understanding and cooperation to cater for the children. Could small
children please eat before the adults at 7pm for dinner and at 12.15pm for
lunch. If older children eat the same meals as the adults they can eat on a
separate table with their parents or by themselves so they can leave the
table when they are ready to.
-
If possible please bring with you what you will need for
small children's dinner on the first night and the children's favourite
breakfast cereals. You can keep food and drink for them in the guests'
fridge in the north-side staircase.
-
If children take French classes these are generally held at
8.30am before the adults' French class and just before or after the adults'
afternoon class.
-
There are some toys available for small children to play
with as well as children's books and videos in English and French.
-
Children under 14 have to be under adult supervision at all
times; if both parents are studying you will need a baby-sitter. We can
organise a baby-sitter for you; baby-sitters generally speak English but not
always. Please let us know well in advance if you need a baby-sitter, as
they are usually older high school or tertiary education students and we
have to fit in around their holidays. Baby-sitters usually arrive around
8.30am on the Monday morning to give the children and the baby-sitter time
to get used to each other and for you to meet the baby-sitter. Please
explain to the baby-sitter where toys and books are and show them your room
too. You are the baby-sitter's employer so could you book times for
babysitting and discuss payment directly with her. Could you let the
baby-sitter know at the beginning of the week their week's progamme so she
can plan her schedule around your children.
